Perisphere

Bench with circular armrests.

Designer: James Corner Field Operations, 2016
This Perisphere bench is part of the Perisphere family which provide beautifully crafted seating for urban environments. The Perisphere seating collection was designed in tribute to a bench designed by Robert Moses and Kenneth Lynch for the 1939 World’s Fair in New York. Urbidermis Santa & Cole’ editors asked James Corner Field Operations (JCFO) – the renowned New York landscape architect studio behind the High Line walk – to take inspiration from this iconic city and reinterpret and update it whilst saying true to its origincal character, whilst enhancing its functionality and ergonomics.
The robust and stylised presence of the bench is due to its characteristic curve of the arms. The benches can be combined with the banquettes to create rows of various combinations. Named after the most ambitious building of the 1939 World’s Fair, the Perisphere modular system is perfect for urban environments such as intimate private gardens, avenues and parks where continually used seating is required along long paths.
